Update

It has been quite some time since I last posted a blog on our website and I hope you can forgive me for that. I have been very busy at the station and on the ground with the community. We have our old Vispol head back,Lt Col Lento, and I for one could not be happier. This means that Col Williams can continue running the station without having to be split in two having to micro manage every detail.

Thank you

24th December, 2009

On behalf of the Somerset West Community Police Forum I would like to thank all those that have contributed money and time, trying to help the Reservists of our station. The response was less than overwhelming but the good samaritan still exists out there, that doesn't just hoard what is theirs, but is willing to share. It still amazes me that we were not able to achieve our target but we are at least able to help a few. For those that have thought about it but never got round to donating or helping, let's hope the police don't do the same when you're in a crisis. A Merry Christmas to all and may all the blessings be upon you.

Impossible is nothing

17th December, 2009

It is that time of the year again when we all look forward to reaping the fruits of our labour over the past year and take some time off to enjoy with friends and family. While we are sitting at our braais and get togethers there are people out on the road looking after us and doing their best to protect our areas.

Most are paid for their efforts, but there exists a group of people that dedicate their time as reservists for absolutely no remuneration. They started off as volunteers and the government decided to start paying them for a while and then decided again to stop paying them due to budgetary constraints.

Changing Times

13th October, 2009

It has been a very sad weekend for Somerset West.  Murders, robberies and burglaries that have kept SAPS busy for most of the weekend. This proves one thing to me and that is that we can never become complacent and think that we have won.  Criminals are changing the way they go about doing their business and seem to be more adaptable than any other agency or business that I know.

When are people going to start taking responsibility for their actions?

21st September, 2009

It seems that lately, the trend is to stuff up and then deny everything, even under the weight of overwhelming evidence. Our leaders, judges and prominent people of society do it, so why would the rest of us be any different?

Just by using a loophole in the system, to avoid conviction, does not mean you are not guilty. Yet, we justify our actions and manage to convince ourselves that we are right, believing our own lies. Have we stopped teaching our children to ask themselves the hard questions before accusing and pointing fingers at others?

I have heard on far too many occasions, that it’s “not my problem”, “let the police do their work”, and my favourite, “I don’t want to get involved”. Why not? Why would you not want to get involved in something as important as your personal safety?

My First blog

14th August, 2009

Hi and welcome to the Somerset West Community Police Forum website. This has been a dream of ours that has come a long way. Finally though, this dream has been made possible by our webmaster, Alastair Shand and the financial backing of Helderberg Crime Watch. A big thank you goes out to these people and we hope that they stay with us for a long time to come.
