Tips for people going away for holidays
A Few Important Reminders if you are going away & you do not
have House sitters
1. Notify your neighbours that you are going away.
2. It would be helpful if you could let me (Neighbourhood Watch Organiser) know who your Key holders are, and the Dates you will be away. This will be kept strictly confidential.
3. Ask the people looking after your property/key holders to remove the post regularly, as well as any other items that will make it obvious that you are away.eg recycle bags
4. Place your bins inside the property. (It is wise to only put your bin & recycling out on the morning of collection & retrieve it asap)
5. Lights! Well lit properties are less likely to be burgled
6. Inside lights that go on and off on timer recommended
7. Overgrown gardens and sidewalks are ideal places for the criminals to hide.
8. Put away garden implements and lock your shed.
9. Lock inside doors. It makes it just a little bit more difficult to get to the valuables
10. Hide all keys and remotes
11. Make sure your house number is clearly visible
12. Make sure you alarm is working properly
To those staying at home - a simple request
1. Please work together.
2. If you see or hear anything out of the ordinary, report it immediately. For example: Is there a car parked in the driveway of someone you know is away?
3. Look out for markers that could indicate residents are away. Something simple as a soda can could be used as a marker.
If you have a House sitter
1. Inform your neighbours if you are having house sitters
2. If you have someone coming in to feed the pets, clean the house, etc let your neighbours know.
3. It is recommended that house sitters have an alternative access code & password.
Have a happy an peaceful holiday, from your Neighbourhood Watch and the CPF. Drive carefully and return safely.
