Neighbourhood Watch Radio Network
13th August, 2010
This happened yesterday.
Neighbourhood Watch Radio Control got a message to say that someone had jumped over a wall, at the circle in Steynsrust Road. Hugh was alerted and met up wih the HCW vehicle and they patrolled the area for another 45 minutes before a panic button call alerted the control room. By now, other NW members were on the radio were calling and offering assistance (as well as checking on what was happening).
Hugh and the HCW van shot around to the address of the panic button alert, and was told that the perpetrator had jumped the wall only thee minutes earlier. Things were hotting up !
Another HCW vehicle arrived on the scene, and a movement was seen in the thick, dense undergrowth, behind the house. After a little while of searching the undergrowth, the perpetrator jumped a wall into a neighbouring property.
Other members of the Neighbourhood Watch had by now arrived on the scene, and an area of about four properties was buttoned down. The area was closed down to one property, where the perpetrator was found and apprehended in a back room.
The perpetrator was handed over to the SAPF for further processing.
This was a story of great dedication and involvement from Neighbourhood Watch members, and of how radio's on the Neighbourhood Watch Network are being used by the community to make a dent in the crime figures.
